In-folio (274 x 195 mm) of 6 ff.n.ch., IV, CXXVI [=CXXVIII] ff.ch. Snack: [A]6 A4 B-X6 Y8; sow skin cold-stamped on wood, traces of clasps (contemporary binding). First edition in the revised version by Sebastian Brandt of Boethian's famous philosophical dialogue. The Consolatio Philosophica, written around 524, is one of the last great works of antiquity and among the most influential in the Middle Ages. It is written in the prosimetrum style, alternating verses and prose. This beautiful edition is richly decorated with numerous woodcut vignettes, including those at the beginning covered with a yellow wash. Some marginal stains or tears; missing cap, guards torn off.
