LUCE, Louis-René. - Lot 1135
LUCE, Louis-René. A new typography, decorated with vignettes, fleurons, trophies, nets, frames & cartels, invented, designed & executed by L. Luce. Paris, J. Barbou, 1771. In-4 (253 x 191 mm) of a frontispiece engraved by Luce, 4 ff.n.ch., 93 plates (including 11 folding), 2 ff.n.ch. (approval and register); red morocco, triple gilt fillet framing, smooth spine grotesquely decorated, roulette on the cuts, gilt edges (contemporary binding). First edition of the famous collection of typefaces and typographic ornaments invented by Louis-René Luce (1695-1774). Very much appreciated by Louis XV, the king ordered the acquisition of these so-called "poetic" typefaces for the royal printing in 1773. Small wear and stains on the binding, otherwise very nice copy.
