Paris, Nicolas Simard, 1734. 4 volumes in-12 (162 x 93 mm) of an engraved frontispiece portrait by Chereau, XXXI, 452 pp. for volume I; 1 f.n.ch., 483 pp. for volume II; 1 f.n.ch., 479 pp., 1 f.n.ch. d'errata for volume III; 1 f.n.ch..., 441 pp., 19 ff.n.ch. de table for volume IV; midnight blue morocco, triple gilt fillet framing, spine with ornate nerves, red morocco title and tomaison pieces decorated with a heart-shaped iron, roulette on the cups, gilt edges on marbling (contemporary binding). Beautiful edition of the famous collection of letters of the marquise de Sevigne, which was completed in 1737 by two additional volumes. A copy that belonged to Abbe Henri-Charles Arnauld de Pomponne (1669-1756), whose father Simon Arnauld de Pomponne (1618-1699) was close to the marquise and to whom the latter addressed letters during his participation in the Fouquet trial.
