TAHUREAU, Jacques. - Lot 1238
TAHUREAU, Jacques. The Dialogues of the late Jacques Tahureau, gentleman from Le Mans, no less profitable than facetieus. Paris, Gabriel Buon, 1566. Small in-8 (159 x 98 mm) of 12 ff.n.ch., 264 pp.; calf leather, smooth spine with long title, red edges (18th century binding). Second edition published one year after the original. Jacques Tahureau (1527-1555) studied at Angers before spending some time in Italy. He counted Ronsard and Baif among his friends. These Dialogues were published ten years after his death by Maurice de La Porte, the brother of a friend of the author, with whom the young poet had deposited the manuscript before his death. Charles Nodier noted about these Dialogues that they would be ? one of the most spiritual and most truly facetious productions of the time? (see Clinchamp, Bulletin du Bibliophile, 1846). Skillfully restored binding. Adams, T-66.
