[De bello Peloponnesiano] in Greek. Venice, Aldus Manutius, May 1502. In-folio (293 x 195 mm) of 124 ff.n.ch. including the last blank. Collation: AA8 AA- ?O8 OP4; speckled basane, spine decorated, jaspered edges (17th century Italian binding). An editio princeps edition of the most important work of Greek historiography, edited by Aldus from a Cretan manuscript. The addressee of Aldus' letter of dedication, Daniel Renier, was a Venetian senator, procurator of San Marco and collector of Hebrew, Oriental and classical manuscripts. Interestingly, Aldus mentions in his dedication that Renier frequently came to his workshop to find out which Greek or Latin text was being printed. Very good copy, complete with the last blank page.
