The Swiss National Museum in Zurich holds a similar specimen in its collections under the name "Spanischsuppenschüssel", for carnation jar (LM-1324). Oille, from the Spanish word olla, is a dish of Iberian origin that mixes various meats and vegetables. Originally, this word was used to designate a container which, through a common metonymy, became the container of the contents. But before coming back to us through the Spanish, aula (or ole, oule, eule) was a pot in old French.
Towards the end of the 16th century, the Füssli foundry in Zurich had become a specialist in the manufacture of lidded containers which it distributed throughout
Switzerland. Mentioned as early as the 13th century, this foundry was famous for casting bells and cannons, and most of the canton's artillery pieces came from this factory.
