Coral harness with a cast silver, gilded... - Lot 289 - Pierre Bergé & Associés
Coral harness with a cast silver, gilded and enamelled frame, sewn on a red velvet support, white and black enamels. It consists of a belt with a large central medallion, framed by two smaller ones, and seventeen cruciform elements on either side. The sword pendant is decorated with eleven rectangular elements; the central medallion bears a large rectangular cabochon with pans carved in bas-relief from the bust of King St. Sigismund in front of the Abbey of Agaune (Valais) of which he is the founder, wearing the Hungarian crown and holding a mass of arms topped by a gadrooned sphere with remains of black enamel, surrounded by crimped coral beads; the other two elements on each side bear a coral with emperor profiles in a similar surround; the reverse of these cabochons are engraved, the most important, with a scene of St. George on horseback slaying the dragon, and the other two with the arms of the kingdom of Hungary gone: in the 1, fesswise Gules and Argent; in the 2, Gules, a patriarchal cross patté Argent, issuant from a coronet Or, a mount of three goblets Vert; all the other elements are enriched with numerous coral cabochons and enamelled plates for the cruciforms; the ends of the belt ending in a hook on one side and a chain with a terminal tassel on the other.
