ABEILLE (Louis-Paul) and MONTAUDOUIN DE LA TOUCHE (Jean-Gabr - Lot 1
ABEILLE (Louis-Paul) and MONTAUDOUIN DE LA TOUCHE (Jean-Gabriel). Corps d'observations de la Société d'Agriculture, de Commerce et des Arts, established by the States of Brittany. Years 1757 and 1758. Rennes, Jacques Vatar, 1760. In-8 de xxxii, 276 pp., (4) ff., two plates without verso, contemporary marbled calf binding, decorated spine, red edges. First edition. Two plates engraved out of text. INED, 1 and 3243 (different collation). The first two years of this publication. A technical work on agriculture where demographic and economic concerns were already emerging, notably the need for freedom in the grain trade. The Société d'Agriculture, de Commerce et des Arts de Bretagne, the first society of its kind in France, was strongly influenced by Gournay's ideas. Its members had the task of drawing up an inventory of agriculture, commerce and industry in the states of Brittany and undertook to make their work public. Inspector General of the Manufactures de France and Secretary General of the Board of Trade, the physiocratic economist Louis-Paul Abeille had the Nantes merchant Montaudouin as his collaborator. A fine example of a bee, despite the slightest rubbing of the bits and caps. Small tear margina leaflet. Ex-libris manuscript Duchemin Devilliers 1823. Goldsmith, 9655. Little tear in one sheet.
