Original editions of the six parts of this famous and fundamental work in the history of physiocracy. The first three parts, constituting L'Ami des hommes proprement dit, were published by Mirabeau in 1756, before his meeting with Quesnay and his conversion to physiocratic theses. In 1758, the work was reprinted with a fourth part, and in 1760 with parts five and six. These last three parts have been joined here to the original edition of the first three, forming the complete work in the first edition. The fourth part, forming the second volume, indisputably testifies to Quesnay's influence. It contains: the Précis de l'organisation or Mémoire sur les Etats provinciaux, an expanded and revised version of the Mémoire concernant l'utilité des Etats provinciaux published in 1750; the Dialogue between the Superintendent d'O. and L.D.H.; Réponse aux objections contre le Mémoire sur les Etats provinciaux; and finally, the Questions intéressantes sur la population, l'agriculture et le commerce, a text by Quesnay and Marivelt which the publisher has added. The fifth and sixth parts, forming the third volume, contain the physiocratic writings added by Mirabeau to the work after his meeting with Quesnay: Mémoire sur l'agriculture; Réponse à l'essai sur les Ponts et Chaussées, la voierie et les corvées, and the explanation of Quesnay's Tableau économique.
