The Resurrection of Christ in oak carved in high relief, part of an altarpiece. Christ, standing, passes his left leg out of the tomb in a dynamic attitude; he wears a cloak tied to his chest and covering his shoulders, the sides of which fly around him in a drapery with crumpled folds; on the left, sitting on the lid of the tomb, a holy woman, her hands joined; on the right, a sleeping soldier leaning on his spear (which has disappeared), wearing a leotard with a puncture wound; the façade of the tomb is decorated with a series of arcatures. Beautifully executed. Limburg, ca. 1520 Height: 83.5 cm - Length: 90 cm (small accidents and misses) Provenance: former collection of Felix Doistau (1846 - 1936), Paris Felix Doistau was a Parisian industrialist, manufacturer of liqueurs. Not only a great collector but also a donor, he contributed to the enrichment of the national collections, notably at the Louvre for the Islamic Arts Department and many other museums.
