[Georges BATAILLE et Michel LEIRIS, éditeurs]. Colette PEIGNOT alias LAURE.
Histoire d'une petite fille. Paris, Hors Commerce, no date [1939 or 1943?] In-12 : paperback. First edition. Unique edition of 33 copies, all nominative. One of the 5 first copies on old paper, bluish laid paper of the XVIIIth century, this one nº 5 for Georges Bataille himself. Mythical book published by Michel Leiris and Georges Bataille : autobiographical, Histoire d'une petite fille tells the first years of Colette Peignot alias Laure. Born into a family of printers and founders decimated by the First World War (her father and three uncles were killed), Colette Peignot rebelled against the bourgeois and Catholic morality of her milieu. Jean-Pierre Dutel dates the clandestine edition to 1939; the catalogue of the Bibliothèque nationale de France, based on a note to the printer's proofreading of her copy, indicates 1943 - as do most bibliographers. A perfectly preserved copy, as issued. (Dutel, Bibliographie des ouvrages érotiques publiés clandestinely en français entre 1920 et 1970, nº 1693: "Probably published in 1939, and not in 1943 as often indicated [...]. A passage evokes the perverse behavior of a priest, intimate of the family, against Laure and her sister. This episode in the life of Laure will inspire Bataille his work L'Abbé C.")
