Mythical book published by Michel Leiris and Georges Bataille : autobiographical, Histoire d'une petite fille tells the first years of Colette Peignot alias Laure. Born into a family of printers and founders decimated by the First World War (her father and three uncles were killed), Colette Peignot rebelled against the bourgeois and Catholic morality of her milieu.
Jean-Pierre Dutel dates the clandestine edition to 1939; the catalogue of the Bibliothèque nationale de France, based on a note to the printer's proofreading of her copy, indicates 1943 -
as do most bibliographers.
