Maurice FOURRÉ.
La Nuit du Rose-Hôtel. Preface by André Breton. Paris, Gallimard (Collection Révélation), 1950. In-12 : black calf, smooth spine decorated with seven mosaic frames of transparent kaleidoscopic plastic with, in the centre of each, a round plastic of the same nature but pink; in the centre of the upper cover, a large circle of pink calf on which is inscribed the name of the author and the title in black letters, pink suede lining and endpapers, untrimmed, gilt head, illustrated cover and spine preserved, folder, slipcase (Leroux, 1991) First edition. Only volume published in the Révélation collection directed by André Breton. One of the 9 first copies on Hollande laid paper, this one out of trade, superbly bound by Georges Leroux. A beautiful letter from André Breton addressed on December 29, 1949 to the author (autograph letter signed, 1 page in-4 and 7 lines) is bound in the front. Jean Paulhan having omitted to send Breton proofs of his preface, there is an error: the review to which Fourré collaborated is not the Revue hebdomadaire, but the Revue des Deux-Mondes. "I do hope that the volume will not appear under these conditions." (The error has not been corrected.) Then Breton informs his interlocutor that he has decided not to include him in the Anthology of Black Humour: "On reflection, it seemed to me that this would be too much of an arbitrary demand on the text and that it might distort its perspective.
