In-12 : parma morocco in the Bradel style, spine with four false nerves decorated, double gilt fillet framing the boards, decorated edges, inner lace, untrimmed, gilt head, cover and spine preserved (binding of the time) First edition in bookshops. The first edition, printed at the author's expense in the same year in an almost confidential manner, was sent to the scrap heap: only the copies used in the press service remain. One of 20 copies on japan (no. 26), the second large paper after 20 chine. The justification in violet ink in Gide's hand is initialled A.W. First book by André Gide: the Cahiers are presented in the form of a diary in which the author confesses his aspirations and inhibitions "on some points of literature and morality". Autograph letter signed: to Eugène Rouard in premise of preconceived friendship André Gide The letter is signed with the author's real name and not, as usually on the book, with the pseudonym André Walter. Writer and politician, dedicatee of Paludes, Eugène Rouart (1872-1936) was one of the most important personal and literary acquaintances of André Gide. Their correspondence was published in 2006. Beautiful decorated binding of the time; the endpapers are remarkable. Spine faded.
