Exceptional wrought iron chest, cut, engraved, chiseled and partly gilded. Upper register: facade decorated with two semi-circular arches with columns at the corners, sides decorated with a circle divided by a cross; lower register: decoration of symmetrical openwork scrolls, vases and leafy masks; all surfaces are enriched with engraved motifs, scrolls, vases, foliage, friezes. The top is decorated with circles divided by a cross on a background of openwork foliage; large side handles. A keyhole on the lid concealed by a cover plate; a ten-pin lock under the lid decorated with rosettes. A flap in the base reveals six drawers with fronts decorated with profiles of helmeted men. Southern Germany, Nuremberg, last quarter of the 16th century Height : 48,5 cm - Width : 46,1 cm - Depth : 24,8 cm (small restorations) Provenance : formerly in a castle of a noble family from Wallonia (Belgium)
