Based in Torino, Giulio Pistono first joined forces with Giulio Poesio, with whom he registered various patents relating to frames and armatures. The management report states that "Signor Pistono has presented well-made cassettes, and must be one of the biggest producers of the peninsula (...)". Steel safe painted in imitation of wood and decorated with whiplash fittings, opening to a door revealing three shelves surmounted by a small safe, the inside of the door bearing the metal label inscribed Premiata Fabbrica / di Casse Forti Imperforabili / ed Incombustibili / G. PISTONO / TORINO, resting on four curved feet. Italy, Turin, Giulio Pistono house, Liberty period, circa 1900 This important safe testifies to the impact that Belgian Art Nouveau had throughout Europe from the early 1890s, itself inspired by Arts & Crafts and Japonism. Based in Turin, Giulio Pistono initially joined forces with Giulio Poesio, with whom he registered several patents relating to locksmithing and armouring. Their names can be found regularly in professional directories at the end of the 19th century. The two partners seem to have had their own production during their partnership, as can be seen in our chest. They each went into business for themselves at the end of the 1910s. The company was covered with honours: Pistono proudly announced on its letterheads and advertisements that it was the supplier of the Government and the main banking institutions. It was present in 1900 in Paris for the Universal Exhibition (Group XI "Mines and Metallurgies", class 65 "Small Metallurgy") and was the only Italian to present safes among seven French, three English, one American and other Europeans. The jury's report announced that "M . Pistono presented well-made safes, and he must be one of the best manufacturers in the Peninsula (...)". He won a silver medal for having "applied the art nouveau to the decoration of a furniture-type safe" which most probably corresponds to the one presented here, thus corroborating the family tradition and participating in the triumph and apogee of this stylistic movement called Liberty or Floreale in Italy. Provenienza: molto probabilmente presentato da Giulio Pistono all'Esposizione universale di Parigi, 1900.
