Large in-8, contemporary binding in red half-chagrin with contemporary corners, spine with richly and elegantly decorated nerves, gilt edges (Lebrun). First edition. Frontispiece and 17 steel-engraved plates after Van Dyck, Rubens and Cattermole, headers, footers and 7 wood-engraved plates out of the text. A very fine copy, finely bound in the period by Lebrun. Lebrun worked in Simier's workshop before setting up his own business around 1830. He worked until his death in 1857. A talented craftsman, his clients included Amand Bertin, Jules Janin and the baron Taylor. From the Jules Janin library with ex-libris.
