DÉMIDOFF (Anatole de).
Journey in Southern Russia and the Crimea through Hungary, Wallachia and Moldavia, executed in 1837. Edition illustrated with sixty-four drawings by Raffet. Dedicated to H.M. Nicolas I, Emperor of all the Russias. Paris, Bourdin et Cie, 1840. Large in-8, red half-maroquin with corners, spine ribbed and decorated, untrimmed, illustrated covers and spine preserved (V. Champs). First edition. Equestrian portrait of the emperor Nicolas I and 23 plates out of text on mounted chine. Superb copy, complete with the music plate (Marche Valaque), which is often missing, as well as the dedication, which is almost always missing. It has been enriched with the portrait of Emperor Nicholas I after Raffet from the 1854 edition, printed on mounted chine, as well as 10 plates of coloured costumes and two large coloured folding maps from this same edition. From the libraries of Victor Mercier (1937, no. 319), with ex-libris and a reference to the collation in his hand in pencil, and baron de Launoit, with ex-libris.
