EVANGILES (Les saints), translated from the Vulgate by M. l'abbé Dassance, vicar general of Montpellier. Illustrated by Messrs. Tony Johannot, Cavelier, Gérard-Séguin and Brevière. Paris, Curmer, 1836. Two large volumes in-8, half black long-grained morocco with corners, spines decorated, untrimmed, illustrated covers and spine preserved (Canape). First edition. Chromolithograph frontispiece, 22 hors texte engravings, twelve on steel protected by silk paper serpents, and ten on wood, the latter printed on chine appliqué, and two coloured maps. Woodcut headpieces and lettering, those of the Preliminary Discourse here finely enhanced in colour and gold. The text of the Gospels is framed by a woodcut border. Each evangelist is illustrated with a special woodcut frontispiece, included in the pagination. A very fine copy, bound in pamphlet. From the Aristide Marie library (1938, no. 193), with bookplate.
