GRANDVILLE (Jean-Ignace-Isidore Gérard, dit J.J.).
Les fleurs animées. Introduction by Alphonse Karr, text by Taxile Delord. Paris, De Gonet, 1847. Two volumes in one large in-8, contemporary binding in lemon chagrin, gilt and cold framed fillets on the boards with a large gilt motif in the centre, repeating a drawing by Grandville, spine ribbed and decorated, gilt edges (Capé). First edition. Beautiful illustration by Grandville including two woodcut frontispieces and fifty steel engraved plates, all coloured by brush. Two botanical plates illustrate Alphonse Karr's text on the modern Botanique des dames. An exceptional copy in a full decorated binding of the period signed by Capé. The design on the boards was executed after a drawing by Grandville. Like the copy of Un autre monde in the present catalogue (previous number), this precious volume comes from the Grandville family who had kept it since the beginning and from whom it was acquired in 1984 by the Giraud-Badin bookshop (certificate of the expert Dominique Courvoisier enclosed).
