GRANDVILLE (Jean-Ignace-Isidore Gérard, dit J.J.).
Les fleurs animées. Introduction by Alphonse Karr, text by Taxile Delord. Paris, de Gonet, 1847. Two volumes large in-8, blue half-maroquin with corners, spine ribbed and decorated with rocaille irons, untrimmed, illustrated cover and spine preserved (V. Champs) First edition. Two wood-engraved frontispieces and fifty steel-engraved plates after Grandville, all coloured by brush. Two botanical plates illustrate Alphonse Karr's text on La Botanique moderne des dames. A very fine copy, preserved at all margins, with the general covers in perfect condition, to which have been added twelve delivery covers (illustrated yellow covers), the notice to the bookbinder and two specimen sheets of text. Attached an autograph letter signed by the author of the text, the journalist Taxile Delord (3 pp. in-8) complaining about the attacks of the Legitimist, Orleanist or patronized newspapers and asking for the publication of his profession of faith of 1863, of which he copies the text (tear without missing a page). Small restorations to some of the covers. From the libraries of Aristide Marie (1938, n° 100) and C.G. (2018, n° 57) with ex-libris.
