HOFFMANN (Ernst Theodor Amadeus).
Contes fantastiques, traduction nouvelle précédée d'une notice sur la vie et les ouvrages de l'auteur, par Henry Egmont. Paris, Camuzeaux, 1836. Four volumes in-8, contemporary paper-covered boards, black titles and headpieces. First edition of this translation. Sixteen steel-engraved hors texte figures by Camille Rogier in a first printing in a historiated frame printed in blue (in sanguine for the three figures of volume IV). The figures of volume II are printed on white with blue frames, contrary to what Carteret announces (III, p. 295), who otherwise mentions only 15 figures. Very fresh paper-covered boards. A few rare pale freckles.
