Large in-8, lavaliere long-grained half-maroquin with corners, spine ribbed and decorated, untrimmed, white illustrated cover and spine preserved (G. Mercier, sr de son père, 1913) First edition. Beautiful publication, very copiously illustrated with an ornate frontispiece, a copper-engraved map of the Routes from Paris to Versailles and hundreds of woodcuts in the text, as well as 14 steel-engraved vignettes mounted in frames provided for that purpose. The whole gives a complete description of the château and gardens of Versailles A fine copy in perfect condition with the first title, rare according to Carteret (III, p. 347), bearing the imprimatur of Everat and the date of 1839, later replaced by the date of 1841 and the heading Paris, Imprimerie Schneider et Langrand.
