LA SALLE (Antoine de). - Lot 168
Paris, Firmin Didot, 1830. In-8, contemporary binding in blue morocco lined with red morocco, fine gilt lace on the boards within a double frame of gilt fillets, lining decorated with a large frame of gilt broken fillets criss-crossing to delimit compartments entirely decorated with small irons, spine finely decorated, gilt edges (Bauzonnet). First edition. Edition printed in gothic type, with 250 copies, decorated with about 250 engravings, including five main vignettes and numerous ornaments, borders, initials, etc. One of the very rare copies, "three or four" according to the publisher's warning, in which all the initials, vignettes and ornaments have been gilt in relief, "rivaling in beauty of tone and finesse of workmanship with the ancient manuscripts". Superb copy cited by Carteret, covered with a rich lined binding by Bauzonnet. From the libraries of A. Sciama, Lebeuf de Montgermont (IV, 1912, n° 164) and Antoine Vautier (II, 1977, n° 119), with ex-libris.
