Memorial of Saint Helena. Followed by Napoleon in exile, by MM. O'Méara and Antomarchi, and the history of the translation of the mortal remains of Emperor Napoleon to the Invalides. Paris, Bourdin, 1842. Two large volumes in-8, long-grained green morocco, on the boards important gilt decoration of the losangerectangle type composed of bold and thin fillets forming criss-crossing scrolls and delimiting richly decorated compartments with large fleurons at the corners and imperial eagle in the centre, large inner garland, spine decorated with imperial attributes and crowned N, lining and endpapers of cream moire, untrimmed, green morocco folders and spine decorated, slipcases (Mercier sr de Cuzin). First edition. Two frontispieces, two illustrated mastheads, two maps, 27 plates out of the text and about 500 vignettes in the text, all wood-engraved mainly after Charlet. One of the very rare copies on china paper, in superb condition, in a magnificent binding by Mercier. As is usual in these copies, the frontispieces and out of the text are on china paper applied on vellum, the maps on vellum. Illustrated prospectus added. From the library of Paul Villeboeuf (1963, no. 236) with bookplate and gilt monogram at the bottom of the first flyleaves.
