Large in-8, empire green half-maroquin with corners, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets and fleurons with imperial attributes, untrimmed, illustrated cover and spine preserved (Mercier sr. de Cuzin) First edition. 24 figures out of text and numerous wood-engraved vignettes in the text after Jules David. An exceptional copy enriched with: - 146 woodcuts on China paper, twelve of which are large format hors-texts, bound in their place in the copy, the 134 others carefully mounted on white leaves bound after the text; - the complete set of 41 covers intended to contain the 50 issues of the work (two issues per cover from the 33rd); - three different illustrated leaflets (4 pages each). A copy in perfect condition, impeccably bound in booklet form by Mercier. From the library of Paul Villeboeuf, with his bookplate and monogram gilt on the first counterfoil.
