Mysteries of Paris. Drawings by Théophile Fragonard, representing the principal scenes of the novel by M. Eugène Sue, to be used as illustrations for the old and new editions of this work. Paris, Prin et Cie, s.d. (ca. 1845). Large in-8, half red long-grained morocco with corners, spine ribbed and decorated (Mercier sr de Cuzin). A fine complete suite of 20 original lithographs by Théophile Fragonard (1806 - 1876) printed on chine appliqué to illustrate the Mystères de Paris. A superb copy of this rare suite preserved in issues, complete with its ten issue covers each containing two plates. From the libraries of Paul Villeboeuf, with his gilt monogram on the first counterplate, and of Sam Clapp (2002, n° 713).
