Poésies de Marguerite- Eléonore-Clotilde de Vallon-Chalys, from Madame de Surville, French poet of the 15th century. New edition, published by Ch. Vanderbourg, decorated with engravings in the Gothic style, according to the drawings of Colin, pupil of M. Girodet. (with) Poésies inédites de Marguerite-Eléonore- Clotilde de Vallon et Chalys... publiées par MM. de Roujoux et Ch. Nodier [...] Paris, Nepveu, 1824-27. Together two works in two volumes in-8, contemporary bindings in red morocco, on the boards a large cathedral plate gilt and mosaiced in red, green, lemon and purple, within a frame of gilt fillets leading to corner fleurons, spine ribbed and decorated in the same way, interior roulette, blue moiré paper endpapers, gilt head, untrimmed (Hering and Muller) First editions. A fine and rare union of the two works, illustrated in total with a frontispiece, nine out-of-text engravings in architectural frames and 8vignettes at the head of the chapters, all engraved on copper. An exceptional copy on Annonay vellum paper, quoted by Carteret (III, p. 577), covered with superb contemporary cathedral bindings, finely mosaiced and containing: - five states of the out-of-text engravings: pure etching; before framing on chine collé; with framing and before letter on chine collé; with framing on white; finished state coloured with gold highlights; - three states of the frontispiece and vignettes: text state; separate print on chine collé; separate print coloured with gold highlights; - an autograph note signed by the publisher of the first volume Ch. Vanderbourg. - four leaves of engraved music to the first volume. Freckles, mainly in the first volume. From the libraries of the bibliographer Jules Le Petit, with a long autograph note signed in pencil on the first endpaper, Emmanuel Martin and Auguste Garnier, with bookplates.
