First edition of the French translation of this astonishing little work comprising the most varied subjects. The first book deals with purple, perfumes, myrrh, ammonia salt, marbles, bookshops or libraries, obelisks, copper, paper, music, clothes, weddings, games, clocks... The second book deals with things "newly invented & previously uninvented": the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus, porcelain, rhubarb and coffee, sugar, distillations, typography, squaring the circle, cannons and artillery, tournaments, falconry, boutargue and caviar, silk...
