First edition. Interesting study written by a spirit of the Enlightenment; the author deals with themes such as fashion, opinion, authority, national instruction, spectacles, luxury, punishment, censorship, religion, etc. "Instruction - which should be free for the children of poor families - should be more concerned with forming judgement and the moral sense. Condemnation of luxury, corrupter of morals" (INED). Binding slightly rubbed and with small worm holes.
