[ROMA]. Essay on the history of trade in... - Lot 161 - Pierre Bergé & Associés
[ROMA]. Essay on the history of trade in Venice. Paris, P.G. le Mercier & A. Morin, 1729. In-12 (161 x 93 mm) of XXIV, 200 pp. 2 ff.n.ch. of privilege. Blond calf, spine ribbed and decorated, marbled edges (contemporary binding). Goldsmiths', 6665; lacking in Kress. First edition, written according to Barbier by a certain Roma, whose life we have not been able to find details of. The author has divided his work into five parts: the first includes the government of the Tribunes, the second that of the Doges elected by the people, the third that of the Doges with a sovereign council, the fourth deals with what has been done under the aristocratic government since 1290, and the last part deals with the commerce of Venice. A fine copy. Traces of a bookplate removed from the back cover.
