Paris, Didot pour Lacombe, 1774. 2 volumes in-8 (196 x 121 mm) of XXIV, 547 pp, 16 numbered plates printed on 25 leaves for volume I; 482 pp, 1 f.n.ch., numbered plates 17-34 printed on 26 leaves, and 2 engraved tables (the first one folded in frontispiece) for volume II. Red morocco, triple gilt fillet, central royal coat of arms, spine ribbed, box decorated with the numeral 'L' interlaced, edges speckled (period binding). Brunet, V, 1028; Quérard, X, 9-10. First edition of this great classic, much sought-after and now rare (Brunet), dedicated to the minister and secretary of state Bertin. Copies with the first volume under the date of 1753 are known. Present-day copy, bound with the royal arms without the notice to the binder. It also bears the stamps of the royal library on the titles. Plates 27/1 and 30/1 are missing.
