In-8 (166 x 104 mm) of 189 pp, 13 ff.n.ch., 8 woodcuts in the text. Gilt fillet in the frame, central medallion, spine ribbed (17th century binding). Renouard, Estienne, 106:19; Schreiber, 132; Adams, B-47 (under Baïf). First collective edition. The 8 woodcuts depict rostrums, crosses, an anchor and ships. "First collected edition of the three children's books based by Charles Estienne on Lazare de Baïf's studies of Roman antiquities. De re navali contains eight woodcuts which are considered the first illustrations ever to be used expressly for children. These originally appeared in the very rare edition of 1537 but were suppressed from most later editions. The present collected edition is one of the few editions to retain these woodcuts" (Schreiber). Copy with the misprint on the title page (LUTEVIAE instead of LUTETIAE).
