MARIO PINTON (Padua, 1919-2008) Italian goldsmith, sculptor and intellectual, Mario Pinton is best known for having been at the head of the "School of Padua" participating in the aesthetic revival of jewelry that took place in Europe in the 1940s. He succeeded in radically changing the language of jewelry, giving critical awareness to the motivations of design and making the jewel no longer a simple ornament but a work of art, a sculpture, a design, an idea in itself representing the culture of its time. Trained at the prestigious Art Institute 'Pietro Selvatico' before becoming one of its distinguished professors, Pinton perfected his apprenticeship in the artistic and intellectual circles of the 'Magistero' in Venice, of Marino Marini in Monza and of the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera in Milan. From the 1950s onwards, he turned to German aesthetic experiments largely inherited from the modernity of the Bauhaus School, to which he was close. His fame will indeed quickly become international, he participates in the largest exhibitions of which he will be several times recipient of the highest awards. He is also well represented in public collections, notably in Paris (MdAD). His style is characterized by a great sobriety with a language both abstract and figurative and references to the modern experience of Bauhaus, but also to ancient art. An exhibition dedicated to him is currently running from April 9 to July 3, 2022, at Museum of the Eremitani in Padua.
