ANGELUS DE CLAVASIO
Summa angelica de casibus conscientiae cum additionibus noviter aditis. [Lyon, Michel Topié], July 15, 1496. Small in-8, (18) ff, CCCCXVI ff, brown calf on cold-stamped wood, cabochons, small nails, and metal clasps, leather ties missing (Contemporary binding). Rare incunabula edition of this collection of cases of conscience and canonical laws, known as the "Angelic Summa" (first published in Venice: Christophoro Arnaldo, 1476). The author, born in Chivasso, is also called Angelo de Carletti (1411-1495). Enriched with commentaries by Girolamo Tornielli, it is printed on two columns in Gothic script. Folio I includes a woodcut. The title leaf is missing, and has been replaced by a handwritten title leaf formerly in red (torn, restored, stains and holes), decorated with an initials, and enriched with ink ornaments. Ex-libris Mathias Errazuriz (1866-1953). Handwritten notes on the endpapers, a few annotations and manicules in ink in the margins. Worm holes on the back covers and on the first and last leaves. Restorations to some leaves. Hinges and spine restored, with missing parts and numerous wormholes. Cabochons rubbed and damaged.
