LETTERS OF ABAILARD AND HELOISE, translated from the manuscripts of the Royal Library by E. Oddoul; preceded by a historical essay, by M. and Mme Guizot. Illustrated edition by J. Gigoux. Paris, Houdaille, 1839. Large in-8, contemporary binding in purple half-chagrin with corners, spines decorated with gilt fillets intertwined in the center, not trimmed (Bauzonnet). First printing. Two frontispieces in bistre, a facsimile in colors and gold and 38 plates out of text printed before the letter on chine appliqué, the whole with captions printed on silk paper serpents, vignettes in the text, the whole engraved in the text, the whole engraved on wood after Jean Gigoux. Edition without the Latin text. Few and tiny stains on some leaves.
