Pétrus BOREL.
Champavert, immoral tales by Pétrus Borel le Lycanthrope. Paris, Eugène Renduel, 1833. In-8 of 438 pp, 8 pp. of publisher's catalog : green half-maroquin with corners, spine with richly decorated nerves, untrimmed, gilt head, illustrated yellow paper covers preserved (Amand). First edition. Title decorated with a large vignette by Jean Gigoux, woodcut by Godard. It illustrates the tale Don Andrea Vesalius the anatomist: the old man is about to cut up the body of his young unfaithful wife for practical work. The surrealists held in high esteem this collection of tales intended to brave the bourgeois and "philistines". It is one of the models of the "cadaverous" literature, of the frenetic kind. Lovely copy, complete with the cover and not trimmed. From the Tristan Tzara library (catalog 1989, n° 72). Freckles, as always.
