Théophile GAUTIER.
Fortunio. Paris, Desessart, 1838. In-8 of (2) ff. 315 pp. 4 pp. of the publisher's catalog : pomegranate jansenist morocco, ribbed spine, gold filleted edges and headpieces, morocco linings of the same color decorated with a double frame of gilt fillets, olive moire endpapers, gilt edges on witnesses, covers preserved (Marius Michel). First edition: copy of second issue. The work had appeared under the title L'Eldorado at the Publications du Figaro in 1837, in a limited edition and without printed cover. It was then put back on sale with a new title and a preface. An impeccable copy, bound in Marius Michel's lined morocco booklet. It bears, as it should, the signature of the printer Lottin de Laval on the cover. From the libraries of Noilly (1886, n° 583) and Pierre Duché (1972, n° 79), with bookplate. Slight rubbing to the binding. (Clouzot, Guide du bibliophile, p. 125.- Escoffier, Mouvement romantique, n° 1285.- Carteret, Trésor du bibliophile I, p. 324 : the only copy cited).
