First edition. Gallery of portraits of "poets of the second order": François Villon, Scalion de Virbluneau, Théophile de Viau, Pierre de Saint-Louis, Saint-Amant, Cyrano de Bergerac, Colletet, Chapelain, Georges de Scudéry, Paul Scarron. Gautier thus delivers one of the first rehabilitations of Villon and the old baroque poets. A very nice copy in decorated morocco by Brany. Scattered foxing. Some annotations in pencil in volume II. Slight rubbing to the binding.
