Le Grand Meaulnes. Paris, Émile-Paul frères, 1913. In-12 [194 x 133] of (4) ff., 366 pp, (1) blank f. : green morocco, boards covered with a decoration of stylized leaves drawn in gold and mosaic of green and light green morocco, smooth spine decorated with green morocco leaves, edge to edge lining and green morocco endpapers, gilt edges on witnesses, cover and spine preserved, box folder and dark green morocco cover band, slipcase (P.L. Martin 1952) First edition. ONE OF TWELVE COPIES PRINTED ON GREEN PAPER FOR THE AUTHOR. In a letter addressed in October 1925 to Raoul Simonson, the publisher Émile Paul indicated: "The book appeared for the first time in September 1913 at the end of the vacations. There was an edition on current paper, numbered of 1000 copies and 10 copies on green paper intended for the author. [...] At the beginning of 1914, we had 10 copies printed on japon and 20 copies on hollande which were delivered to us by the printer in February 1914." The back of the title is blank here and does not bear the printed mention : "Copy printed especially for the Author." Alain-Fournier's bookseller and biographer, Jean Loize has corrected the number of ten copies on green paper to twelve. A sumptuous copy in a lined and mosaic binding by Pierre-Lucien Martin, dated 1952. From the library of Jean Jacobi, with ex-libris.
