In-8 [183 x 141] of (2) ff. the first one blank, 176 pp, (2) ff. half dark green morocco with corners, spine decorated with cold filets, gilt head, untrimmed, cover and spine kept (Jeanne Gazel). First edition of Philoctète and El Hadj. Le Traité du Narcisse and La Tentative amoureuse had previously appeared at the Librairie de l'Art indépendant in 1891 and 1893. Limited edition of 300 numbered copies on Arches laid paper (no. 188). Signed autograph address: to Hugues Rebell // cordially // André Gide Successful novelist of Nuits chaudes du Cap Français, Hugues Rebell (1867-1905) was also the poet of Chants de la pluie which inspired André Gide in Les Nourritures terrestres.
