Letters to Angèle. 1898-1899. Paris, Éditions du Mercure de France, 1900. In-12 [143 x 112] of (1) blank f., 176 pp., (1) f. : bradel paper boards, smooth spine, brown morocco title page, gilt head, untrimmed, cover preserved (later binding). First edition: 300 copies on Hollande paper. Copy of Jean Schlumberger, with his autograph monogram JSW (for Jean Schlumberger de Witt) in the upper corner of the cover. Founder with André Gide, Jacques Copeau and André Ruyters of the Nouvelle Revue française, Jean Schlumberger (1877-1968) published in 1956 a book entitled Madeleine and André Gide. In 1968 he was the co-founder of the Association of Friends of André Gide. Spine browned, cracks at the hinge of the first plate. Provenance: Jean Schlumberger, with his monogram on the cover - Monique Hoffet, daughter of Jean Schlumberger - Michel Richard, with autograph notes on the endpapers.
