L'Immoraliste. Paris, Société du Mercure de France, 1902. In-12 [166 x 107] of 257 pp, (1) f. : jansenist blue duck morocco, ribbed spine, lining of blue duck morocco with gilt fillet and decorated with a frame of 7 black fillets, blue moiré silk endpapers, gilt edges, cover and spine preserved (Semet et Plumelle). First edition to Henri Ghéon : it was printed at 300 copies on Arches laid paper. Autograph signed on the title page: to René Boylesve // with kind regards // André Gide The two writers met in 1897, both collaborating in the review L'Ermitage. Gide seemed to enjoy seeing Boylesve, as he wrote in his Diary on January 20, 1910: "Pleasant visit from Boylesve; I feel that the conversation will not go very far with him, but I have each time more pleasure to see him again." For his part, René Boylesve (1867-1926) considered Gide as "a dilettante, a curious mind, very intelligent". A very nice copy in morocco lined by Semet et Plumelle. Spine very slightly lightened. Small lack at the upper corner of the cover.
