Partly original edition, illustrated with a black photograph of the author, reproduced in the frontispiece. Edition of 320 copies on paper pur fil Lafuma de Voiron (n° 20). Autograph letter signed on the back of the portrait: I am happy to see // this beautiful little book // in the friendly hands // of dear Keeler Faus // André Gide // Paris September 1945 An American diplomat posted in Vichy and a bibliophile, Keeler Faus had made friends with Gide and had in particular helped him to obtain, during the occupation, medicines to ease the last days of Paul Valéry. Spine slightly lightened.
