GIDE, André.
Les Faux-Monnayeurs. Paris, Éditions de la Nouvelle Revue Française, 1925. In-4 [214 x 165] of 503 pp, (2) ff. the last one blank : dark blue jansenist morocco, ribbed spine, beige morocco lining with gilt fillet, dark blue silk endpapers, gilt edges on witnesses, cover and spine preserved (Huser). First edition, dedicated to Roger Martin du Gard. One of the first 121 copies reprinted in quarto format Tellière on Lafuma-Navarre laid paper, this one being one of the 9 copies out of trade (copy C). The only work by Gide labeled "novel". The formal novelty and the daring of Les Faux-Monnayeurs earned it a critical reception: "But the work has become a fundamental reference, signaling the entry of the French novel into the modernity of the 20th century" (Philippe Hamon). A very nice copy in morocco lined by Huser. Trace of rubbing without gravity on the first plate. A few minor brown spots.
