Léon BLOY (1846 – 1917) - Lot 110
Léon BLOY (1846 – 1917) Le symbolisme de l'app arition. 1879 - 1880. Paris, Librairie Lemercier, 1925. In-18 of 287 pp, (2) ff, bradel green half-maroquin with corners, spine decorated with gilded fillets, untrimmed, gilded head, cover and spine kept (Honnelaître). First edition, published by Jeanne Léon-Bloy, of this text written in 1879-80, in the middle of the author's mystical crisis, inspired by the episode of La Salette, where the Virgin appeared in 1846. Bloy went to the place in 1879 with his confessor, the abbot Tardif de Moidrey. Portrait of Léon Bloy by Andrée Sikorska and reproduction out of text of his tomb in Bourg-la-Reine. One of the ten numbered first copies on Japon, number 1. "From 1880 until 1917, the manuscript of the "Symbolism of the apparition", followed by the "Paraphrase of the Discourse", remained on Léon Bloy's desk, sometimes serving as a desk pad for his work. When he composed "Celle qui pleure", he reread this old study, but without finding material to use for his new book, which was of a different kind. Léon Bloy had moved on. A chapter of his life had been closed with his vision of La Salette in 1879. He entered into the darkness which was to embrace him more and more through successive catastrophes until the great tribulation of the "Despairing". (Preface of Jeanne Léon-Bloy). A perfect copy.
