Raymond RADIGUET. - Lot 395
Raymond RADIGUET. Le Bal du comte d'Orgel. Imprimerie Floch à Mayenne, 23 - 25 août 1923. Proof sheets in printed cover, folder, red half-maroquin slipcase. Complete collection of the 30 proof sheets of the first version of Raymond Radiguet's novel: each is indicated as "Proofs n° 1". Handwritten note of the time mounted at the head: "First text of Radiguet very different from the one published after finalization by Cocteau, it is said. On each page one can see that there were very important and numerous modifications. As usual, only three or four copies of these plates were printed and it is most likely that this one was the only one that was not destroyed. Of the same composition put in pages it was drawn then 20 exemplars under cover bearing: Epreuves du roman de RAYMOND RADIGUET .......................................... in the exact state left by the author / and before any corrections / even typographical." Published after the death of Raymond Radiguet (1903-1923), the novel was greeted as a masterpiece. Jean Cocteau corrected the proofs, without betraying the spirit of the work. One can judge it on the spot.
