Large in-8, contemporary binding in red half-chagrin, red percaline boards framed with two two golden nets, bold and thin, spine finely decorated, golden edges. First printing. Frontispiece and 500 woodcut vignettes in the text after Horace Vernet. One of the very rare copies on China paper, perfectly preserved (tiny (Minor foxing exclusively on the title, title and frontispiece). These plates have been bound in their place in the volume. From the library of Laurent Meeus (Wittock, n° 360), with his bookplate Aimé Laurent.
