Paris, Masson fils, 1839, In-12, blue long-grained morocco, on the boards a large gilt garland formed by repeating motifs alternating with fleurons linked by a double gilt fillet, straight, curved and broken, the whole in a frame of four thin fillets and one thick one, spine ribbed and decorated in the same way, large inner frame formed by gilt fillets and motifs, gilt edges on witnesses, illustrated cover and spine preserved, lining and endpapers of white moire, case (G. Mercier, successor of his father, 1931). First edition. Colored frontispiece printed on chine, two dedication leaves decorated with a vignette, a portrait of the author and 12 out-of-text figures printed on chine and protected by printed serpents, to which are added numerous illustrations in the text and delightful frames on each page, all wood-engraved after several artists. Nice edition, called the little sister, by comparison with the big edition given by Curmer one year before. A very nice copy. Minor faint foxing at the extreme margin of a few leaves.
