CHAZE (born 1972) - Lot 104

CHAZE (born 1972) Title "Effacement", 2017 Installation comprising a spray paint on a Paris metro door, (model MP73, line 6), accompanied by a mannequin representing an RATP agent cleaning up graffiti. Dimensions: 190 x 162 cm Mannequin: 172 cm In 1991, Stem vandalized the prestigious Louvre metro station. After making headlines in the media at the time and being imprisoned, he had to change his name if he wished to continue painting the Paris metro, choosing the name Chaze in 1992. With this installation, Chaze underlines the ephemeral nature of painting on the metro, a vandal gesture condemned to be erased. He freezes the ultimate moment of Graffiti's life, while cynically offering it the possibility of permanence.
