Salomon Emquies is a multidisciplinary artist who works in painting, photography and video. In 1983, he collaborated with Jean-Michel Basquiat on an experimental video he made with artists Rammellzee and Toxic, shot in the iconic Hollywood hip-hop club The Rhythm Lounge, which Emquies launched in 1982. Throughout the 90s, he was also a photographer for Venice Magazine, where he shot numerous covers, including those of Paloma Picasso, Sophia Coppola and Isabelle Huppert. In 1993, he was named one of Hollywood's best new photographers by American "Photo" magazine.
